To promote and celebrate the launch of the final season of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, we were asked to think of a way to bring the show, and the characters, to the people of the UK.
Our answer was to make a Misfortune telling machine (along with Special Treats, and immersive experiential company), and send it on a tour of the UK – allowing everyone to get their own taste of misfortune.
We wrote a series of misfortunes in the TOV of Count Olaf, ane premiered the Misfortune Machine on Londons South Bank, during the school holidays, for maximum exposure.
For those who weren’t able to make it to the machines’ locations in person, we also made a social misfortune teller, where audiences could ‘interact’ with the machine and screenshot for their own misfortunes.
Following the UK tour the machine went on a US tour, and now lives in the foyer of the Netflix UK London offices.
